Steve was diagnosed with acromegaly in 1986, which is caused by a benign tumour on the pituitary gland.

After surgery and radiotherapy, he became an active volunteer with The Pituitary Foundation. This national charity supports pituitary patients and their families. He worked on their national telephone helpline for 14 years.

Now retired, Steve enjoys a quieter life but still works as a Volunteer Ambassador for the foundation. His main interests are photography and repairing things.
